Overnight CDL Driver for Waste Collection

At Action Carting, we blend corporate standards with a small business, family-like atmosphere. We are currently looking for an Overnight Waste Collection CDL Driver to work out of our Bronx Depot (315 Casanova St, Bronx, NY 10474). This full-time, Union, non-exempt hourly position has overnight schedules that begin between 6pm and 10pm from Sunday to Friday, with shift lengths ranging from 10 to 12 hours or until routes are completed.

As a Waste Collection CDL Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating a rear-loading truck for the pick-up service of waste and recyclable materials, working closely with a Helper and transporting materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate the truck following safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.

Perform thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and document any issues.

Ensure the secure transport of containers and their contents, monitoring for any safety hazards.

Report any incidents or safety-related issues immediately to the appropriate personnel.

Engage professionally with customers and Dispatch, addressing any concerns or complaints respectfully.

Participate in mandatory training and safety meetings.

Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Possess a valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record.

Have at least 1 year of CDL driving experience within the last 7 years, preferably in waste collection.

Understand DOT, OSHA, and traffic regulations.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, comprehend road signs, and complete reports.

Capability to navigate using maps.

Meet physical demands of the job, which includes lifting up to 50 pounds.

Willingness to work varied hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb on and off the truck multiple times during a shift.

Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
