Job Function:
The paraprofessional will assist the teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment. They will assist in the preparation of instructional materials and the implementation of lesson plans. The paraprofessional will provide routine support, and all duties are performed under the direct supervision of the teacher.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent plus one of the following qualifications:
Complete at least two (2) years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours) or Completed and passed the PRAXIS
Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate
Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment
Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved
General clerical skills
Computer data entry experience preferred
Ability to understand physical, health, and emotional behaviors and challenges of students with exceptionalities
Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs
Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of class exercises, tests and assessments.
Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student: lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and other related non-instructional areas.
Construct, copy, distribute and use educational materials as needed.
Assist teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc.
Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper assistance for all students.
Adhere to all policies of the District.
