Tyler Houk (Practice Director) with Robert Half is looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Fresno, California. In this role, you will oversee all accounting operations and financial reporting activities for our construction and real estate development business. As a key member of the leadership team, you will manage a small accounting team, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and drive improvements in processes and reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Lead daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
• Prepare, analyze, and review monthly financial statements and related schedules to ensure accuracy.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes to support timely and accurate reporting.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard company assets.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of four accounting professionals, fostering growth and collaboration.
• Coordinate with external auditors and oversee the annual audit process to ensure compliance.
• Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections; analyze variances and provide actionable insights.
• Utilize advanced Excel functions, such as pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, to perform financial analysis and reporting.
• Monitor job costing and project accounting, providing financial guidance to construction project managers.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and other industry-specific financial requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.
• Proficiency in financial reporting and strong knowledge of accounting principles.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
• Familiarity with accounting practices in construction or real estate development is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Proven experience in managing and mentoring a small team.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
