Coastal Source strives to create the most durable and high-performance outdoor living products on the market. We are proud of the products we create and our team that stands behind them. We are working to build a world-class experience for our customers.
We are looking for a versatile and innovative Electrical Engineer. Reporting directly to the VP of Design & Engineering, the Electrical Engineer will work closely with the R&D department and the CEO. This is a hands-on engineering role based in the Florida Keys, a region that offers both unique environmental challenges and lifestyle benefits.
About You
You are a seasoned electrical engineer with hands-on experience in product development and electrical design. You specialize in low-voltage LED lighting systems, audio amplifier circuits, passive and active crossover networks, and 120V AC electrical systems. You bring a deep understanding of LED drivers, constant current/voltage systems, and power electronics, complemented by strong proficiency in circuit simulation and design tools. With extensive experience using test and measurement equipment, you are well-versed in validating and optimizing designs across a range of conditions. In addition, you have a solid background in embedded control systems, a keen understanding of electrical safety standards, surge protection strategies, EMI/EMC best practices, and the principles of thermal management and environmental sealing—ensuring robust and reliable product performance in real-world applications.
Key Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
3+ years of experience in product development or electrical design with focus areas including:
Low-voltage LED lighting systems (12V/24V)
Audio amplifier circuits (Class D preferred)
Passive and active crossover network design
120V AC electrical systems
Strong understanding of LED drivers, constant current/voltage systems, and power electronics.
Proficient in circuit simulation and design software (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad).
Experience with test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, audio analyzers, thermal cameras, etc.).
Familiarity with embedded control systems (e.g., PLC, DMX, DALI, 0-10V, Bluetooth, Zigbee).
Understanding electrical safety, surge protection, and EMI/EMC design practices.
Ability to design thermal management and environmental sealing.
Familiarity with marine-grade or outdoor-rated enclosures, IP ratings, and conformal coatings.
Knowledge of photometric testing and lighting simulations.
Experience in high-end residential or commercial lighting and audio installations.
Knowledge of PLC, DMX, 0-10V, DALI, and audio signal routing (balanced/unbalanced).
Background in outdoor lighting and audio design.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop advanced low-voltage LED lighting systems, including custom drivers, dimming interfaces, control circuits, and thermal management solutions.
Engineer high-performance audio solutions, including power amplifiers, preamps, and passive/active speaker crossover networks.
Work with 120V AC systems, ensuring safe integration with lighting and audio infrastructure per NEC code and UL standards.
Develop and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and technical documentation using modern design tools.
Perform prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electrical systems for performance, durability, and compliance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical design, acoustics, manufacturing, and product management.
Ensure designs meet environmental and electrical requirements unique to harsh outdoor environment (salt air, heat, humidity, hurricane exposure, etc).
Provide support for prototyping, production, and field deployments, including occasional hands-on installation assistance.
Why Work in the FL Keys?
The Florida Keys offer a unique lifestyle and engineering opportunity—combining island living with challenging design conditions:
Design products for real-world coastal environments affected by salt spray, UV exposure, and extreme weather.
Join a small, dynamic team of professionals who value hands-on experimentation and craftsmanship.
Collaborate on premium, design-driven products in an environment where creativity and problem-solving are paramount.
Enjoy a laid-back island lifestyle with access to boating, diving, fishing, and nature—no long commutes or urban congestion.
Live where others vacation—sunshine, ocean breezes, and natural beauty are part of your everyday work environment.
