Job Description
A respected leader in the building materials industry is seeking a dependable and experienced Plant Operator I to oversee day-to-day operations of its asphalt and/or aggregate production plant. This skilled role is critical in ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient batching of materials, equipment maintenance, and quality control. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the materials production process, computer batching systems, and site safety procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Operate and monitor computer-controlled batching equipment to produce asphalt or aggregate mixes according to established specifications.
Ensure proper material blends and dosages are used for each mix, verifying that all products meet quality and customer standards.
Conduct daily inspections and walk-arounds to identify and correct unsafe or faulty equipment conditions.
Perform routine and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal plant performance and minimize downtime.
Start up, shut down, and manage all daily operational functions of the plant.
Communicate effectively and regularly with dispatchers, haulers, drivers, customers, and internal teams including operations, production, and quality control.
Maintain accurate plant documentation, including daily reports, material inventory, and production logs.
Monitor inventory levels for mix materials and coordinate reordering as needed.
Adjust production as necessary to meet demand while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as plant operator operating an asphalt or aggregate plant preferred.
Strong understanding of material batching, inventory control, and plant operations.
Proficient with computer systems and automated batching software.
Ability to perform basic math and percentage calculations to ensure proper material quantities.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and mechanical aptitude.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and compliance.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and adapt to extreme temperatures, noise, dust, and vibration.
Preferred but not required: experience operating heavy equipment such as a skid steer or front-end loader.
