About ALSO.
We're ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We're a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO-replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.
Also is looking for a Staff Motor Mechanical Engineer to lead motor mechanical engineering design in conjunction with the Motor Electromagnetic Team.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
Design mechanical components of stators, rotors, and their integration with EV propulsion and electrical systems.
Iterate motor mechanical designs to optimize electromagnetic performance while ensuring manufacturability and cost-effectiveness for EV applications.
Lead engineering decisions on winding technologies, magnet materials, lamination methods, insulation, and electrical interconnections specific to EV propulsion motors.
Develop detailed CAD drawings and manufacturing instructions for propulsion system parts and assemblies.
Perform linear static stress and structural analyses on components under operational and dynamic loads.
Execute and document Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R) to validate propulsion system mechanical requirements.
Develop and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs) tailored to EV motor components.
Coordinate validation and quality assurance activities with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers of propulsion components.
Collaborate across disciplines to advance propulsion system designs from initial concept through prototyping to mass production.
Support hands-on prototype assembly, testing, and component fabrication for EV propulsion systems. What You Will Bring (Qualifications)
Proficient in CAD tools (CATIA/3DExperience preferred) and PLM systems for propulsion component design, including BOM structuring and engineering change control.
Strong mechanical engineering foundation, with expertise in materials, heat treatments, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials applied to propulsion systems.
Experienced in high-volume manufacturing techniques for electric motor components (e.g., stamping, winding, welding) used in EV drivetrains.
Deep understanding of electric motor design parameters and their influence on torque, power, efficiency, thermal performance, and NVH in propulsion applications.
Skilled in FEA using tools like Ansys, Abaqus, and HyperWorks; experienced with MATLAB and/or Python for performance modeling and data analysis.
Proficient in GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure reliability and precision in propulsion system assembly.
Hands-on experience with integration, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electric motor and drivetrain systems in EV platforms. The salary for this position ranges from $165,000 to $230,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
