Title: Winery Controller

Reports To: Director of Operations
Exempt ( X ) Non-Exempt OBJECTIVE: The Winery Controller will be responsible for all financial accounting matters, including general ledger, preparing and analyzing financial statements, administration of company policies and development of internal accounting controls, and the analysis of its related activities and policies. The Winery Controller will be primarily responsible for preparing the Company's internal financial statements and various schedules and analyses for the Company's quarterly reviews and special projects as necessary. The successful candidate will be a key interface to senior management and responsible for accurate, timely and polished financial reports and analysis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Financial Reporting
Manage the multiple wineries accounting operations by working closely with the accounting team and various managers to develop policies and procedures to safeguard assets, streamline financial reporting process, and communicate pertinent financial analysis and information to Director of Operations.
Produces, prepares and reviews all financial reports for accuracy and consistency.
Maintain the financial planning model, including historical data, current year plan, forecast and actual data for the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and liquidity statements
Ensures that all financial reports are complete and submitted in a timely manner.
Ensures that proper GAAP accounting standards are being practiced.
Stays current on financial reporting issues.
Month-End closing; preparation or review of monthly closing accruals.
Monthly report of Company financial performance to Operations Committee.
Meet with departmental managers to review financial performance, identify problems and opportunities.Departmental Budgeting
Coordinate and prepare the annual income statement and balance sheet budgets at a detailed, departmental level.
Detailing of specific budgets with recommendations.
Analyzes budgeted Income Statement and Balance Sheet items.Financial Controls
Perform and ensure effective financial reporting controls to include timely and complete balance sheet reconciliations on monthly basis and review of accounting entries to proactively address errors and risks.
Manage the accurate and consistent flow of multiple company GL mapping into the financial statements
Reconciles bank accounts to GL’s
Projects cash requirements and monitors cash receipts and cash disbursements.
Maintains operational relationships with banks
Ensure the accuracy of inventory reportingAnnual Audit
Works with outside independent auditors to coordinate annual audit and coordinate preparation of Company financial statements
Interacts and provides annual tax return information to CPA
Provides detail accounting for all Federal and State audits to CPA
Manage all tax planning and complianceMiscellaneous
Transaction support – Support other users with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Develops new management information reports to allow timely and efficient decision making by senior management.
Makes cost reductions/efficiency recommendations to managementStaff Supervision
Oversees inventory management with other related dept. managers
Lead, mentor, and coach accounting staff to ensure team performance meets service level targets and development goals.
Makes recommendations regarding efficiency within the department.
Provide performance management and process annual reviews
NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, MBA desired
• 7+ years prior experience including assistant controller / controller position
• Wine Industry experience preferred
• Strong understanding of US GAAP
• First-rate writing, communication and presentation skills
• Excellent process management experience, ability to organize tasks and see opportunities for synergy and integration and simplify processes
• Unwavering attitude and ability to “roll up the sleeves” to get the job done while expecting precision and excellence
• Educate the logistics department in procedural best practices to ensure that work is complete, accurate, timely and relevant to inventory control
• Accustomed to various accounting systems including POS applications; Business Central a plus

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The pay scale for this position is $155,000 - $175,000. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. The Company reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
