Controls Engineer

Salary: $72,800- $95,000

A growing industrial services provider onsite in Wausau, WI is seeking a Controls Engineer to lead controls and automation efforts for a variety of industrial projects. The ideal candidate is a motivated problem-solver with strong electrical and controls engineering knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. This role will work closely with project managers, clients, and process engineers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop control panels and I/O wiring diagrams for industrial processes

Create network diagrams and assist in system architecture design

Program PLCs and HMIs (primarily Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms)

Perform troubleshooting and provide application engineering support

Generate schematics, bills of materials, and specifications

Support start-up and commissioning activities at customer sites

Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams

Provide remote and on-site customer service and support

Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with industry standards

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering OR Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell preferred)

Familiar with NEC, UL508a, and industrial control systems

Strong planning, communication, and problem-solving abilities

Able to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel 25–50% throughout Wisconsin

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

Experience with AutoCAD, SCADA systems, and industrial network configuration

Knowledge of SQL, Oracle, or similar database systems

VFD and servo motor programming

Server setup and network deployment

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based with some fieldwork

Must be able to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs

Travel to client sites as needed
