Position Overview

This is a 40-hour-per-week onsite position, with some flexibility required around core hours (occasional early starts or late finishes depending on project needs).

This position is not hands-on or tool-based but requires physical presence in workshop and shop floor settings.

Ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoy being immersed in the day-to-day activity of engineering and manufacturing teams.

A motivated and detail-oriented Data Collector to support the development and maintenance of technical documentation for platforms such as Small Unmanned Surface Vessels (sUSV) and their subsystems, including software, electronics, and general support equipment.

This entry-level role is suitable for a candidate eager to contribute in a dynamic, evolving environment, working closely with technicians and engineers to gather accurate and timely information for documentation as directed by the Lead Technical Writer.

The role involves working on the shop floor, observing, recording, and organizing technical activities and processes. While not a hands-on technical role, it requires prolonged standing.

Adhere to standardized document formats and serve as a quality control gate for drafted documents, ensuring proper configuration, formatting, and compliance with internal standards before distribution.

Skills And Experience

At least 2 years of experience in data collection or technical writing, or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Strong knowledge of technical documentation practices, including formatting, style guides, version control, and structured authoring.

Experience working with or editing documents like operation manuals, Product Technical Bulletins (PSBs), or test procedures.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

Ability to follow standard templates to collect required information.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, training, production, technician, and management teams.

Highly organized and detail-oriented with good task prioritization and time management skills.

U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a DoD security clearance.

Experience in technical writing within defense, maritime, or engineering environments preferred.

Familiarity with maritime or military systems and documenting military systems or government-contracted platforms.

Experience developing training materials from technical content.

Ability to work in an Agile or fast-paced environment.

Familiarity with configuration/data management tools like PLM, Jira, DOORS.

Job Details

Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00/hour

Benefits include 401(k), health/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, relocation assistance, tuition reimbursement.

Schedule

10-hour and 8-hour shifts, day shift, Monday to Friday, overtime, weekends as needed.

Location

Must be able to commute to Curtis Bay, MD, and be willing to relocate before starting.
