Senior R&D Engineer – Signals, Software, and Intelligence Systems (TS/SCI)
Location: Wright-Patterson AFB / NASIC, Dayton, OH (On-site; some flexibility with government approval)
Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI (Current and verifiable at the time of application)
Overview:
We are seeking a mission-driven Senior R&D Engineer with deep technical expertise in signal processing, software development, and intelligence collection systems to support a multi-year, cutting-edge Research & Development (R&D) program at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC). You’ll play a pivotal role in developing, integrating, and testing advanced ISR applications and algorithms to enhance U.S. Air Force and Intelligence Community capabilities.
This position supports the Non-Traditional Collection Technology Initiative (NCTI) under the NOVASTAR contract, focused on enabling next-generation long-range and passive RF intelligence collection.
Key Responsibilities:
Research, design, and develop algorithms for signal processing and data extraction from novel collection systems
Develop and deliver cloud-ready software applications supporting ISR missions
Conduct systems integration, testing, and validation in secure environments
Document and deliver Interface Control Documents (ICD), Software Design Descriptions (SDD), and Software Test Plans (STP)
Collaborate with NASIC engineers, SMEs, and government leads to refine architectures and improve technical performance
Support classified technical briefings, program reviews, and deliverables
Manage code repositories, build environments, and version control for all developed software
Participate in collection planning, capability testing, and data orchestration activities
Ensure all IT solutions conform to NASIC’s enterprise architecture and DoD cybersecurity standards
Minimum Qualifications:
U.S. Citizen with active TS/SCI clearance
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related technical field
7+ years’ experience in software development and/or signal processing
Strong background in R&D for defense or intelligence applications
Experience developing algorithms for RF, ELINT, SIGINT, or related data
Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Java)
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and containerized development (Docker, Kubernetes)
Strong understanding of DoD software lifecycle, documentation, and testing standards
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting NASIC or similar IC/DoD organizations
Understanding of long-range standoff and passive RF collection systems
Knowledge of IC data pathways, transfer protocols, and secure data handling
Experience with classified development environments and secure enclaves
Familiarity with DFARS, DoDD 8140.03, and RMF frameworks
Certifications: Security+, CISSP, CEH, or relevant DoDD 8140 cyber certs
Strong math background (signal modeling, statistical analysis, ML)

Collaborative mindset and ability to work across government-contractor teams
Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines in high-security settings

Salary range:
Top tier talent (PhD, prior NASIC experience, or published work in RF/signal processing) can negotiate salaries $190K+ DOE
Mid-level candidates with 5–7 years and no NASIC background may start closer to $145K–$155K
