GROW WITH US AND STAY EXTRAORDINARY:
Launch your career to new heights with Innoflight—one of San Diego’s fastest-growing Aerospace and Defense innovators. Here, visionary minds engineer the future of space technology through pioneering, compact, and cyber-secure solutions. From software-defined radios to cutting-edge cryptographic systems and avionics, everything we build powers the next era of New Space. Join our small, agile, and mission-driven team where your work has real impact and your growth has no limits. We’re not just reaching for the stars—we’re engineering them. Let’s innovate the infinite, together.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
As a PCB Designer III, you will be responsible for the design, layout, and documentation of complex printed circuit boards (PCBs) in support of Innoflight’s advanced product development and manufacturing. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create high-reliability boards for space and defense systems, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and compliance across all phases of the design lifecycle.
Designs Complex PCB Layouts: Designs and documents multi-layer, high-density PCBs from schematics and engineering inputs, in compliance with IPC and industry standards.
Translates Technical Requirements: Interprets electrical, mechanical, and regulatory requirements into manufacturable board designs, guided by cross-functional engineering teams.
Generates Manufacturing Documentation: Produces complete fabrication and assembly packages, including BOMs, Gerber/ODB++ files, pick-and-place data, and fabrication drawings per company standards.
Develops and Maintains ECAD Libraries: Creates and updates schematic symbols, PCB footprints, and 3D models, ensuring consistency across the Altium Designer library.
Performs Complex Routing: Executes component placement and signal routing for digital, DDR4, RF, and power circuitry, optimizing for electrical performance and design feasibility.
Defines Layer Stackups: Determines optimal layer stackups including the use of blind and buried via structures to support high-complexity designs.
Collaborates on Design Reviews: Works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to support design reviews, manufacturability assessments, and iterative improvements.
Supports External Manufacturing: Provides technical support to resolve layout-related issues with fabrication and assembly partners, ensuring on-time production.
Drives Process Improvement: Participates in design tool upgrades, workflow optimization, and the evolution of internal design standards and procedures.
Manages Multiple Projects: Effectively balances multiple PCB design tasks in parallel, ensuring timely delivery within aggressive development schedules.
YOU’RE AWESOME AT:
Advanced PCB Design: Experienced with designing complex, multi-layer PCBs (10+ layers) including blind and buried via structures, for use in high-reliability applications.
Altium Designer Expertise: Proficient in Altium Designer for schematic capture, layout, library management, and output generation in fast-paced engineering environments.
Documentation and Standards: Highly skilled in generating comprehensive manufacturing documentation in compliance with IPC standards and DFM best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Thrives in collaborative team environments, communicating effectively with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and enhance design outcomes.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Associate’s degree (A.A.) in engineering technology, electronics, or a related field preferred; equivalent technical training and experience will be considered.
5 or more years of experience in PCB design with more than 10 layers, using blind and buried via structures.
3 or more years of specialized experience using Altium Designer.
Experience in Aerospace, Space, or other high-reliability industries is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with IPC standards and design for manufacturability (DFM) practices.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills.
Must have a U.S. Security Clearance.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $135,000 per year, depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a competitive base salary, Innoflight offers a well-rounded compensation package that includes a Profit-Sharing Bonus and a Cash Performance Bonus to reward both individual and company performance. Additional benefits include:
401(k) with 3% company match (automatic enrollment)
Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, HSA & life insurance
10 paid holidays + 120 hours PTO (starting in year one)
Access to ancillary benefits such as critical illness, accident, disability, legal and pet insurance.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING HERE:
Flexible Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off—whether you use it to recharge, work on a passion project, or spend time with family, the choice is yours.
Continuous Learning & Development: We’re serious about professional development. From tuition reimbursement to internal "Ask Me Anything" sessions and weekly “Lunch & Learns,” we make learning a core part of the job.
