Job Description

Job Summary:

The Construction Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations for the company. This role involves financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and reporting to ensure the manufacturing functions operate efficiently and profitably. They also play a crucial role in analyzing financial performance, optimizing manufacturing processes, and making strategic financial recommendations to support decision making.

This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and provides leadership to assigned direct reports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Preparing financial statements, forecasting reports, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulations.

Monitor the general ledger entries with reconciliations and analysis.

Developing and managing budgets, analyzing variances, and preparing financial forecasts.

Overseeing the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax compliance.

Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.

Coordinating and leading internal and external audits.

Supervising and mentoring finance and accounting teams, providing guidance and training.

Partnering with human resources on performance management actions for assigned employees.

Analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and recommending improvements to financial performance.

Regularly communicating with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and other executive team members on financial matters.

Oversee the company credit issued cards and employee expense reimbursement program.

Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Models and supports Dant Clayton's values, beliefs, and company vison.

Produce financial reports including the P&L, balance sheet, cashflow and department statements with analysis.

Prepare the monthly results package. Present at the monthly Combo meetings.

Maintain accurate WIP schedules and continue to build actionable information.

Partner with the PM’s to continually update Cost to Complete (CTC) reports for accuracy with monthly reviews.

Collaborate with internal departments and external resources to refine and develop the company’s ERP system (CSI), ensuring data accuracy.

Complete the Sales Commission Statements and entry.

Execute wire transfers, review, and sign checks.

Monitor billing and cash collections / cashflow.

Manage the month end and year end year closing process, hitting defined due dates.

Occasional travel to jobsites would be expected to learn the complete business process.

Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, Master's degree and/or CPA certification preferred but not required.

Minimum five years’ experience as a Controller in an organization with over $50 million in annual revenue.

Significant experience in accounting and finance, ideally with a focus on financial reporting and budgeting.

Strong understanding of GAAP, financial regulations, and industry-specific accounting practices.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with strong leadership and team management abilities.

Has demonstrated track record of progressing through an organization and has a personal goal of continuing to grow as a professional, taking on new responsibilities.

Must have a minimum of five years proven standard cost accounting experience.

Must have experience with inventory and purchasing processes for project cost transactions

Mist have experience with job costing and cost to complete procedures.

Minimum of seven years’ progressive and proven experience in the role of Controller in a manufacturing and/or construction environment with a company with over $50 million in annual revenue.

Significant experience and knowledge with the operational side of running a manufacturing business is required.

Must have proven experience leading and managing a team of direct reports.

Proficiency in financial software and databases, MS Office, cost accounting principles, and ERP systems.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience working for a Design Build company would be ideal, however not required as long as open to additional on the job training.

Must be collaborative with the ability to work with multiple individuals and departments.

Ability to manipulate and analyze large amounts of data with high attention to detail and accuracy.

Must be able to multi-task and thrive in a challenging environment to meet deadlines.

Must be willing to work extended hours as needed, mainly during the month and year end close.

Must be service oriented with the ability to work and thrive in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
