Position Overview:

Do you enjoy solving complex problems and perfecting cutting-edge technology? If so, you might be the right fit for our new Test Engineer position that will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our software and hardware work seamlessly together. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing testing procedures for software products, PCB designs, electro-optical hardware designs and system level performance for Class 1/Class 4 Laser Systems.

Ideal Candidate:

Will have technical proficiency in electronics, digital circuits, sensors and DAQ devices

Will have strong documentation skills, including test reporting, procedural development, and contributions to product manuals

Will have familiarity with mechanical drawings and dimensional metrology

Position Responsibilities:

Create and manage robust testing protocols that must be enforced and documented for software, Hardware, and Optical and Mechanical components. (ISO/IEC 17025)

Maintain and improve test automation frameworks for efficient testing workflows.

Provide feedback to design engineers based on test outcomes to improve manufacturability, alignment tolerance, and robustness.

Perform hardware FMEA and validation testing, including signal integrity, communication protocols, and mechanical assessments.

Assist production with the development and validation of PCBA test fixtures.

Collaborate with accredited test laboratories to perform EMI, EMC, and safety testing, ensuring compliance with CE marking requirements and other global regulatory standards.

Stay up to date with new testing methodologies, tools, and industry Certification protocols appropriate to company systems.

Design or modify test fixtures to support alignment, measurement, or repeatability of laser system testing for prototypes.

Perform optical alignment of laser beam paths, lenses, and galvanometer systems for prototypes

Develop alignment procedures and diagnostic methods using power meters, beam profilers, and focal height verification tools.

Collaborate with optical and systems engineers to evaluate focal accuracy, beam quality, and scanner performance.

Assemble and modify laser marking system prototypes and test fixtures for optical and system-level validation.

Support optical safety validation including interlock functionality, Class 1 enclosure verification.

Conduct environmental or durability testing (thermal cycling, vibration, dust exposure) as needed to validate design robustness.

Analyze test data to identify failures, or areas for design improvement; communicate findings through reports or review sessions.

Execute system-level tests that validate the integration of mechanical, optical, and software components.

Consult and assist other engineering departments with projects.

Communicate clearly with customers, end-users, peers, and Staff.

Provide customer service and support and installations, as needed.

Complete other tasks as assigned by management.

Travel occasionally, as needed.

Required Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering or related field

5 - 8 years of professional engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Clear understanding of computer communication infrastructure, hardware and protocols. USB, TCP\IP, Ethernet IP, LVDS, MIPI, RS-232, RS-422, etc.

Strong hands-on experience testing electronic circuit boards using standard hardware test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.

In depth knowledge of MS Windows operating systems.

Computer skills using Microsoft Office Network applications are required.

Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Good interpersonal and team-oriented skills.

Solid technical foundation working with C#, C++, DEV Express third-party components.

Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW, including the design and implementation of custom test setups, DAQ integration, and automated data collection.

Preferred Experience:

Experience using other Microsoft/Linux OS programming technologies and frameworks

Experience with Vision systems

Experience aligning optical components such as collimators, scan heads, or focusing lenses; understanding of beam path geometry and focal length behavior.

Experience with Autodesk suite, Inventor, Vault, Autocad

Experience with first article inspection (FAI), including use of coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for precision validation

Experience with tools like Excel, Python, or MATLAB for analyzing test data.

Familiarity with optics, laser alignment, and safe handling of Class 1 and Class 4 laser systems

Familiarity with using measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and CMM systems.

Familiarity with creating circuit diagrams (schematic capture), helping with circuit board design (layout support), and FPGA programming

Familiarity with ERP systems and PLM systems (Arena preferred).

Familiarity with laser safety standards (e.g., ANSI Z136.1) and regulatory requirements preferred
