OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sr. Appian Developer at MagMutual plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality software solutions that enhance our operational efficiency and improve client outcomes. This position involves analyzing, designing, coding, and unit testing software programs and applications, ensuring they align with our strategic objectives. The Sr. Developer is responsible for researching, designing, and documenting software specifications throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC) and is crucial in analyzing and resolving software defects promptly and accurately.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Utilize expertise in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technologies to develop and analyze forms (PCDAP) and define rating algorithms (ALR) for operations.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues in MAG Mutual-developed and vendor-supported applications, while coordinating with system vendors on specifications, enhancements, and custom coding.

Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and appearance of company websites and applications, and develop reports using IT-mandated tools like Business Objects.

Identify and fix Technical Debt, ensure code quality, and implement fixes for Critical Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE).

Run software performance tests, conduct critical analysis of results, and generate status reports for management.

Independently manage complex projects, mentor junior developers, and exhibit leadership in driving technical decisions.

Proactively identify project challenges, manage tasks effectively, and engage in hands-on coding for over 30 hours a week.

Actively participate in Dojos and training sessions to enhance team knowledge and collaboration.

Lead discussions across cross-functional teams (DevOps, TechOps, CX) and contribute valuable insights during architectural discussions.

Provide constructive feedback in code reviews, advocate for best practices, and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Enforce proper Code Coverage standards and analyze performance tests to deliver solutions to identified issues.

Maintain a deep understanding of the insurance industry, aligning technical decisions with business goals and contributing to product strategy.

Collaborate with product managers to translate business needs into technical solutions and serve as a subject matter expert on technical feasibility and trade-offs.

Provide Tier 3 support to the Service Desk and assist in developing operational documentation for all programs.

Support change management processes and be available for work beyond normal business hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in technology or related field required.

Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CBAP, CPCU, AINS) preferred.

Minimum of five years in Health Insurance, Worker’s Compensation, or Property & Casualty insurance.

At least 3 years of experience with COBOL, JAVA, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, SQL, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Oracle, SQL Server, Client Server Applications, AS400, .NET, and communication protocols.

Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, C#, Spring, Angular) preferred.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and DevOps practices.

Strong understanding of data analysis and reporting tools.

Experience leading software development projects and working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; understanding of UX/UI design principles is a plus.

Knowledge of insurance regulations and compliance requirements.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and mentor junior engineers, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning.
