Actuarial Analyst

The Advanced Analytics & AI team sits at the intersection of health data, technology, and impact. We’re accountable for pioneering new data products, advancing our use of AI, and ensuring data is clear, correct, and actionable across the company. From surfacing insights that power clinical decisions to enabling predictive models that shape strategic business bets, we partner closely with engineering, product, commercial, and clinical teams to unlock data-driven outcomes at scale.
As an actuarial analyst on the Advanced Analytics & AI, you will:

Responsibilities
Quantify program impact - Perform actuarial and claims analyses that quantify program value and uncover new growth opportunities for both clients and product teams.
Own customer reporting - Deliver standardized financial and clinical outcome reporting for our customers, ensuring data accuracy and timely delivery
Elevate our analytics stack - Automate workflows, enhance documentation, and champion best practices across Google Sheets/Excel, Looker, BigQuery, and dbt
Co-engineer predictive models - Collaborate daily with senior actuary and data scientists to build, validate, and iterate financial models that power strategic decisions
Drive cross-functional impact - Partner with Commercial and the broader Advanced Analytics & AI team on projects that streamline processes and scale insights
Be the analytics “help desk” - Handle incoming stakeholder and client inquiries regarding data and models
Step up as a client-facing SME - Within 6 months, join customer calls to present findings and answer actuarial and analytics questions, extending your influence beyond internal teams
90 Day Plan
Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:
Learn about Virta Health’s different product offerings and the associated performance guarantees
Deep-dive into existing reporting templates and data pipelines
Shadow the Staff Actuary to understand modeling assumptions
Own production of certain standardized customer reports
Lead a claims analysis end-to-end, presenting findings to internal stakeholders
Document learnings and add to team knowledge base
Begin shadowing client calls to prepare for external-facing responsibilities
Must-Haves
Quantitative/Analytical skills including comfort with data
Technical skills: 2+ years of analytical experience with extensive use of Excel (bonus: SQL, Python)
Time management and being able to balance multiple priorities
Comfort explaining and presenting technical solutions to nontechnical stakeholders
Completion of 4+ preliminary actuarial exams and pursuing ASA/ACAS designation
Bachelor’s degree
Nice-To-Haves
Advanced programming skills (SQL / Python / etc.)
Experience working with standard healthcare data formats (e.g., medical/pharmacy claims, eligibility files)
Experience in building BI dashboards using tools such as Looker or Tableau

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. For this role, the compensation range is $145,491 - $187,900. Information about Virta’s benefits is on our Careers page at:
