Job Description

The Sheet Metal Fabricator will be responsible for the precise fabrication, assembly, and occasional installation of various sheet metal components, primarily for HVAC and ventilation systems. This role requires the ability to interpret blueprints, operate a variety of fabrication machinery, and ensure high-quality, accurate products that meet project specifications.

Essential Functions:

Read and accurately interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and schematics to determine project specifications, material requirements, and fabrication methods for HVAC and ventilation components.

Measure, cut, bend, form, and assemble various sheet metal materials (e.g., galvanized steel, aluminum, stainless steel) using shears, brakes, rolls, presses, and hand tools.

Operate and maintain a variety of sheet metal machinery and tools safely and efficiently.

Perform welding, soldering, riveting, or other joining techniques to assemble fabricated components.

Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to design specifications and industry standards.

Collaborate with the AutoCAD design team and other trades to identify and resolve potential coordination or collision conflicts prior to physical installation.

Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA regulations, in the fabrication shop and on job sites.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools and materials.

Assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of materials and fabricated components as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

2+ years of proven experience as a Sheet Metal Fabricator, preferably within the HVAC or mechanical construction industry.

Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.

Proficiency in the safe operation of sheet metal fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, and rolls.

Basic understanding of welding (e.g., spot welding, TIG, MIG), soldering, and riveting processes applicable to sheet metal.

Strong mathematical skills for accurate measurements and calculations.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.

Education/Certification Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Completion of a vocational training program or apprenticeship in Sheet Metal Fabrication is highly preferred.

OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety certification preferred (can be obtained upon hire).

Work Environment:

Primarily operates in a fabrication shop environment, which may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures.

Frequent travel to construction job sites may be required, which can expose employees to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, and construction hazards.

May work in confined spaces, at heights, or in other challenging environments.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling for extended periods.

Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for operating tools and handling small parts.

Good vision, including color perception and depth perception, for reading blueprints, inspecting work, and safely operating machinery. Ability to clearly see and identify safety signals, warnings, and signage.

Good hearing to understand verbal instructions, communicate effectively in noisy environments, and discern warning signals such as alarms, horns, and vehicle back-up alarms.

Ability to work at heights (e.g., ladders, lifts) and in confined spaces.

Capacity to maintain focus and attention to detail in a dynamic and potentially noisy environment.

Strong problem-solving skills to address fabrication challenges.
