Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or Master’s in Accounting/Finance preferred.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Position Summary:
The Controller is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role ensures that financial systems and processes support the strategic goals and compliance requirements of the nonprofit. The Controller manages accounting functions, ensures accurate financial reporting, enforces internal controls, and supports budgeting, forecasting, and audits.
Key Responsibilities:
· Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
· Maintain and monitor internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, and external regulations (e.g., IRS, grant requirements).
· Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
· Support the preparation of the annual budget in collaboration with department heads and senior leadership.
· Assist with financial forecasting and analysis to guide strategic decision-making.
· Coordinate the annual audit process, serving as the primary contact for external auditors.
· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including tax filings (e.g., IRS Form 990).
· Manage grant and fund accounting, ensuring proper tracking, usage, and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.
· Supervise and support finance staff, providing leadership, training, and performance management.
· Maintain financial policies, procedures, and documentation, ensuring they are up to date and aligned with best practices.
· Provide financial insights and reports to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee as needed.
