POSITION SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, manages a large and complex multi-networking environment, performs a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and project-related and training tasks to enable users to maximize productivity and to support the network infrastructure. The IT Network Technician reports to the Director of Information Technology. This position requires discretionary authority and independent decision making to successfully support the technology goals of the City of Quincy.
JOB DUTIES:
Performs duties associated with Level 1 and Level 2 Technical Support.
Administers a complex network or group of networks utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols.
Oversees the monitoring of all information technology usage related to City personnel and vendors to safeguard the city's assets, intellectual property, and computer systems.
Identifies emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the city which will have a significant positive impact on the enterprise.
Provides technical consulting services to department/organization regarding use of computers and networks to satisfy business needs.
Installs, configures, and maintains the city's LAN/WAN network infrastructure, network switches and firewalls, network infrastructure, network cabling, public safety communications system, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; adds or upgrades and configures disk drives, printers, and related equipment.
Monitor and maintain network performance and capacity planning.
Performs and/or oversees software, monitoring and application installations/upgrades.
Works with the Director of Information Technology to maintain software site licenses for the department and organization.
Implements network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file system permissions, and file system integrity.
Adding and deleting users as directed by the Director of Information Technology.
Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Provides Level 2 technical support on desktop computers, monitors, printers, software, and telecommunications.
Participates in IT Department's on-call rotation.
Performs various other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and relevant work experience is preferred; or any other combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Cisco, Checkpoint, HPE Aruba, CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, MCP, MCSE, CCNA, and VMware VCP/VCAP certifications preferred but not required.
