Job Summary

Energy Hire is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the development, scaling, and ongoing management of our technology platforms. This is a high-impact leadership role for a hands-on, strategic engineering leader who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments. You will oversee all aspects of engineering execution — from systems architecture to vendor management — while ensuring our technical roadmap aligns with the company's business growth objectives. This position is hybrid, requiring regular in-person collaboration at our Austin, TX headquarters.

We are now expanding our leadership team to include a Director of Engineering to help drive our next phase of growth.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of technology development and engineering execution.

Drive the company's technical roadmap in alignment with product and business goals.

Oversee system architecture design, scalability, and operational resilience.

Evaluate and manage third-party vendors, contractors, and outsourced engineering partners.

Implement and continuously improve security protocols, including data protection, access controls, and IP security.

Optimize system integrations, APIs, and multi-process workflows.

Provide hands-on leadership to build, mentor, and scale engineering teams.

Conduct technical due diligence on proposed solutions, partnerships, and vendor proposals.

Manage and forecast engineering budgets.

Act as a technical advisor to the executive team, contributing to high-stakes business decisions.

Prepare and deliver executive-level technical presentations and reports.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of engineering leadership experience, ideally in SaaS or technology-driven startups.

Strong technical background with expertise in:

Azure DevOps, Amazon AWS, .NET

Customer.io, Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics

API integrations and complex systems optimization.

Proven track record of scaling platforms and teams in dynamic, high-growth environments.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Certifications in Microsoft Azure, .NET, or comparable technologies.

Deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure, security best practices, and software development methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing hybrid or geographically distributed engineering teams.

Previous experience supporting early-stage or growth-stage startups.

Familiarity with full product development life cycles from MVP through mature platform scaling.

Ability to build and maintain vendor relationships and external partnerships.
