Description
The Assistant Transmission Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, including underground and overhead high-voltage transmission lines. The Assistant Transmission Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting transmission line plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
Responsibilities
Assist in the transmission line design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects involving high-voltage (69-500kV) transmission lines.
Design transmission line components for project needs and requirements, including plan and profile drawings, structure load diagrams, and foundation drawings.
Apply basic knowledge of commonly used civil and structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
Conduct research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
Compile studies and reports.
Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers within multiple CAD-related software programs.
Assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for high-voltage transmission line designs.
Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Comply with all company policies and standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Required), or Bachelor's degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam (Required).
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience (Preferred).
Basic knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Basic knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team-building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Involvement on campus or in the community (Preferred).
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, restrictions, or work sponsorship).
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification (Preferred).
