Job Summary:
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) has been offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for over 15 years. ESL classes are offered to adults in the greater metropolitan region. This person will be responsible for class instruction of students of multiple levels in both group and one-on-one settings. Our current class offerings are both online and onsite at our Metairie location. Travel to other locations may be required on an as-needed basis. The position also requires general program administration and support including managing and tracking student registration, enrollment, assessment, and attendance. The Specialist will also support general program functions such as lead group orientations and intakes, troubleshoot student technical issues, and other tasks as necessary. This position requires a flexible schedule and weekly day and night shifts.Duties/Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
Class Instruction - 50%
Implement a focused curriculum to support students from pre-beginner level to high intermediate level students
Instruction and classroom management both in-person and online for adult learners
Coaching - 30%
Offer one-on-one support to students to improve attendance and remove barriers to participation
Manage own schedule; communicate efficiently with students to manage coaching sessions
Administrative/Other - 20%
Administer standardized assessments, filling out registration forms, as well as giving feedback to the program manager, and modeling best teaching practices
Manage student files, tests, maintain inventory of books and classroom supplies, and collect sign-in sheets
Respond to phone and email inquiries from prospective students and volunteers
Ensure effective and empathetic communication with other program staff
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures
Track and record students' participation and milestones into the WRU system
Maintain availability to respond to emergencies
Perform other related work as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, Standing, Walking, Talking, sitting at a desk, and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at times.

Minimum Educational and General Qualifications:
A bachelor's or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university
Intermediate to proficient knowledge of ESL instruction, curriculum, and teaching techniques
Bi-lingual (English Spanish) candidates are strongly preferred. Proficiency in Arabic, Haitian-Creole, French, Ukrainian, or other languages valued
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and sensitivity to the special needs of multicultural immigrant adults and families
Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective work relationships
Strong organizational skills, and ability to work across all levels of management and staff
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all cases and client information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft TEAMS, and WorkReadyU SIS system preferred and ability to learn database/software required
Familiarity with Cambridge Ventures curriculum strongly preferred
Ability to work some evenings/weekends on a weekly basis
Have reliable transportation
