Elizabethtown College is seeking applications for a Database Specialist to join the Information & Technology Services department. This position is part of the four-member Database Support team responsible for managing the College’s enterprise data systems and their integrations with various third-party platforms. As a member of this team, the Database Specialist will directly support campus offices in their use of critical data systems that keep the institution operating smoothly. Key responsibilities include daily monitoring of system processes and integrations, troubleshooting data errors, and ensuring the integrity and security of institutional data. The ideal candidate will possess strong diagnostic skills to identify root causes, sound judgment to implement effective solutions, and a creative approach to process improvement to prevent recurring issues. Success in this role requires close collaboration with others, keen attention to detail, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required At least two years of database management experience supporting relational databases; Microsoft SQL preferred Experience working for a college is also desirable Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training Possess a technical aptitude to understand complex technical problems with the ability to think through issues and identify/implement a solution Ability to preserve confidentiality of information Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work within strict deadlines Must work effectively with team members to achieve common goals and contribute to a positive team dynamic Creative problem-solving skills Exceptional customer service skills Excellent oral communication skills (i.e. ability to deal effectively with others, speak professionally on the phone, etc.) Familiarity to industry terms and processes Demonstrated experience with database systems, including Microsoft SQL Server Advanced understanding of SQL and ability to create/review advanced queries and scripts Ability to create advanced reports (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Power BI, Infomaker, etc.) Ability to communicate technical information in both verbal and written form to all levels and types of audiences Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
