Visiting Assistant Professor in Computer Science

The Computer Science Department within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Visiting Lecturer position to begin Fall 2025. The position is for the 2025-2026 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY26-27.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Teaching (base three-three teaching load)

+ Department, college, and university -level service.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

+ Reports to Computer Sciences Chair

+ Supervises the following positions: NA

+ May supervise as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)

Job Requirements:

+ Candidates must be prepared to teach a variety of fundamental undergraduate computer science courses, develop, and improve courses, advise students, and serve on departmental committees.

+ Lecturers are expected to commit to excellence in teaching, and to constantly review and improve the pedagogy they use to engage and support student learning.

+ Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

+ MS in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution is required.

+ While all or most instruction will be in-person, applicants should also address their willingness for and experience with teaching remotely or on-line.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Ph.D. in Computer Science, or related area degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

+ Prior college or university teaching experience is preferred.

Working Environment:

+ Class schedules may include courses offered after 5 pm on weekdays.

+ This position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities.

+ Travel within New York State and beyond may be necessary.
