The Postdoctoral Scholar will participate in a lab- and field-based research project that evaluates the drivers of bryophyte rarity. The postdoc will develop niche models and physiological drought experiments to assess the impact of precipitation on bryophyte microhabitat needs. To achieve these goals, the candidate will have expertise in bryophyte community ecology, bryophyte taxonomy, and species distribution models. The results of the work will be used to direct bryophyte conservation efforts.

Required: Ph.D. degree in a field of biological sciences. Four years of experience identifying bryophytes in the field and lab is required. This experience could include graduate level work or other related experiences. Experience working on bryophytes in the Southern Appalachians is preferred.

All candidates should have a background or interest in bryophyte ecophysiology and conservation, be able to lift 22.5 kg (50 lbs.), be capable of hiking for long periods of time in (sometimes) rough conditions, spend long days and/or nights sampling, and be willing and able to perform standard laboratory procedures.

The pay range for this job profile is $61,008 annually. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
