Job Description

Seeking to contract with a highly motivated Senior Fuel Handling System Design Engineer that will focus on the design of primarily mechanical fuel handling and process systems for fuel handling equipment operating inside the reactor vessel. In this role, you will act as a system design engineer for advanced nuclear reactor projects in the area of fuel handling. The successful candidate will integrate and coordinate with engineers working on interfacing systems. The Fuel Handling System Design Engineer will work as part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities

Design of nuclear in-vessel fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements through final design.

Management of Systems, Structures and Component level requirements ensuring they are traceable and implemented into configuration control system, including verification and validation methods.

Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems Specifically ASME BPVC, ANS 57.1, NML-1, NUM-1 and BTH-1.

Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design.

Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and system or equipment interface drawings.

Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the Supplier Project Engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.

Originate and review technical design documents, such as System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, reports, design change requests, etc.

Support design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined.

Key Qualifications and Skills

Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline preferred. M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.

A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in the design of complex mechanical systems, structures and equipment.

Previous experience with nuclear technology including fuel handling equipment and/or reactor internals design or similar high-performance systems utilizing modern industrial equipment is preferred.

Demonstrated experience with 2D and/or 3D CAD software, preferably Solidworks.

Experience working to ASME BPVC Section III or Section VIII code desired.

Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.

Experience working to quality standards on design and procurement activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is preferred, but not required.

Ability to navigate and thrive in an actively evolving project and management structure.
