The Director of the Neuropsychiatry Program (“The Lodge”) will be responsible for the oversight of our residential program that specializes in the treatment of patients with psychotic illnesses and will also work collaboratively with the inpatient team to provide expert consultation in the care of similar patients on the inpatient service. The Director will interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, patient-centered, evidence-based, and high-quality program delivery. The successful candidate will have expertise and experience treating this patient population, including the psychopharmacologic and psychosocial assessment and care of these patients and their families.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Maintains a clinical caseload of The Lodge patients, in accordance with requirements set by the Chief Medical Officer.

Serves as ambassador for the program, including communication of program offerings to business development team members, referrers, and all the departments and teams of Silver Hill Hospital.

Assesses referrer preferences, needs for communication, and assure timely communication.

Provides consultation, psychiatric assessment, individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation, clinical supervision, or other clinical interventions.

Works cross-functionally with clinicians and clinical leadership to ensure that high quality assessments are being provided consistently, and in accordance with quality standards of care.

Assists the team in identifying transference/countertransference dynamics and uses this understanding to facilitate reflection that furthers understanding of the patient (i.e., support responsiveness to the patient rather than reactivity to the patient).

Monitors the safety and well-being of all patients and immediately respond to safety risks in accordance with hospital policies. This includes placing patients on the “Hot Spot” report when there are increased concerns (safety, disruptiveness in the milieu, etc.) and arranging for inpatient stabilization as needed.

Ensures team participation in daily morning huddle to provide patient status updates. Reports on emergent issues, status of patients on “Hot Spot” report and communicates census updates. Convenes huddles to address emergent issues regarding patient care and patient flow. Participates in and contribute to safety rounds.

Oversees crisis management in collaboration with residential staff and the Nurse Supervisor. This includes support and guidance for residential counselors on patient care and safety concerns.

Identifies opportunities for new, revised, or enhanced services, and collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer and other stakeholders in implementing changes to programming or workflow.

Collaborates with the Patient Experience and Quality Departments on initiatives identified through patient and family feedback and in response to regulatory and/or accreditation standards.

Fosters cohesive teams and create an inclusive team environment where all voices are welcomed.

Helps build trust and camaraderie between team members. Communicates respectfully to build quality communication and dialogue between members of the staff and the inter-disciplinary teams. Establishes an environment where open discussion is encouraged and where clear and inclusive decision-making processes flourish. Develops clear and inclusive decision-making processes.

In conjunction with the People Success Department, recruits, interviews, and orients and onboards new clinical staff, including contractors.

Supervises and coaches direct reports and fosters their professional growth and development. Complete performance appraisals for direct reports.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Education and Experience:

M.D. degree, Licensed in the state of Connecticut.

Board certified in Psychiatry

Management experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to move light objects weighing less than 20 pounds for short distances.

Ability to sit at a desk and walk around for different periods of time.
