Basic Function

The Reliability Team Lead is a working fixed equipment engineer providing engineering support, including: leading reliability improvements, supporting expense & capital projects, and supporting outage & turnarounds in the Reliability department. This position also coaches, mentors, and supervises mechanical engineers to ensure the safe execution of the site reliability objectives. The Reliability Mechanical Team Lead is a member of the LPO Intermediates & Derivatives Reliability Team located in La Porte, Tx.

Roles & Responsibilities

Leadership Role:

Ensures compliance and drives continuous improvement in Health, Safety, & Environmental protection for the group and facility

Delivers GoalZERO performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement

Assists with development of the annual Reliability budget and updates reliability long-range plans

Develops and maintains site maintenance & reliability procedures and guidelines

Manages performance and professional development of direct reports

Assures the Roles and Responsibilities of engineers are met

Drives strong Engineering Discipline culture that includes continuous improvement

Spending approval per Delegation of Authority (DOA) guidelines

Facilitates team member development, and completion of Performance Appraisals and Development Plans

Participates in STI and Merit increase determinations for team members

Ensures the Code of Conduct and all other Company policies are accurately, consistently, and fairly administered

Ensures unit support requirements by coordinating and approving vacations and working schedules.

Assigns team members to support unit roles, capital projects, maintenance projects, action items, investigations, & turn-arounds

Develops team training plan within the approved yearly training budget

The ability to earn the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity and authenticity

The ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive and private employee information

Willingness to coach, develop and hold others accountable

Working Role:

Leads/provides technical support in the design and installation stages of projects for new fixed equipment assets and modification of existing assets to minimize life cycle cost and maximize asset availability

Actively participates in Reliability Improvement Teams to guide effort to maximize equipment reliability

Supports site outages and turnarounds

Leads and participates in incident investigations to identify and eliminate the root cause of incidents, complete and close findings

Implements reliability best practices, develops and optimizes PM/PdM tasks, and supports maintenance activities by providing troubleshooting & repair assistance

Min. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum of six (6) years of experience in chemical or refinery industry

Excellent communication and influencing skills

Turnaround experience / ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams

Effective leadership and organization skills

Commitment to health, safety, security, and environmental work processes

Project and budget management experience

Familiarity with:

Barrier Failure Analysis methodologies

Industry codes and standards (API 510/570/653, PCC-1, PCC-2) and their application

Varieties of process equipment (piping, flanges, pressure vessels, heat exchangers)

Diagnostics and equipment repair

Component failure analysis

Business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with both fixed and/or rotating equipment

Familiarity with Meridium

Familiarity with RBI (Risk Based Inspection)

Experience with RAT and RVIFT
