Responsibilities & Qualifications

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for an Automation Engineer! This position is responsible for systems engineering in the areas of automation and computer systems to contribute to the achievement of the Manufacturing Unit's safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities

Maintenance of existing automated systems

Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects having a scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of responsible assignments

Application of state-of-the-art technology and techniques to resolve complex engineering problems

Performs special study programs involving technical data of a complex nature

Support manufacturing by working closely with the Operations, Engineering and Process Groups

Direct vendors and consultants

Involvement in equipment, operator, and maintenance training programs

Promote external contacts with other operations research groups as necessary

Must be willing to keep current with the ever-changing technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control, process automation and process management systems and methods Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline

Experience working in an IT environment organization

Strong communication skills required

Software skills in software analysis, design, methodology, and architecture

Programming experience in software language (C# experience preferred) Qualifications, Cont.

Ability to develop relationships with employees

Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives

Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work

Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration as it pertains to a networked manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications

5 years of manufacturing experience preferred

Understanding of TCP/IP networks Desired Qualifications

Experience in HMI/SCADA systems (WonderWare HMI systems)

Experience with SQL programming and relational databases

Experience in building client/server applications, multi-threaded applications development, vSphere and virtualization, server and stack hardware and network switches

Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration as it pertains to a networked manufacturing environment

The role can be filled at different levels depending on relevant experience of the candidate. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI). This role's salary at a TCP Level I starts from $75,000 per year.

Novelis Oswego is located in northern Central New York on the shores of Lake Ontario and employs approximately 1200 people. The Oswego plant produces more than one billion pounds of high-quality aluminum sheet each year serving customers in the automotive beverage can and specialty markets.
