Job Title: Controller

Position Summary:

The Controller will be responsible for all aspects of the company's accounting and financial operations for a premier, high-end catering company. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. The Controller will report directly to the company President and play a vital role in decision-making and financial planning. Company has very supportive leadership and a healthy, professional work culture. There is flexibility for remote work due to illness, family obligations, or inclement weather.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the month-end close process including journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, and financial statement preparation.

Manage relationships with insurance providers for workers comp and general liability audits.

Collaborate with external Certified Accounting Professionals (CAP) for monthly financial and year-end activities.

Develop and manage annual budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts.

Oversee daily banking activity including check file submissions to Positive Pay and ACH monitoring.

Review and post company credit card transactions.

Ensure all accounting practices adhere to GAAP standards.

Administer company 401(k) plan including payroll deductions and coordination with TPA for year-end census audits.

Prepare and file multi-state sales tax returns (MD, PA, VA, DC, NY).

File annual license and permit renewals with relevant government entities.

Supervise and mentor staff responsible for A/P, A/R, and bi-weekly payroll.

Maintain availability for occasional evening or weekend needs, especially during major events (minimal and infrequent).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field

4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with prior leadership or controller experience.

Proficient in accounting systems (experience with Sage is a plus but not required).

Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.

Microsoft Office Suite experience

Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.

Preferred Experience:

Background in hospitality, catering, restaurants, grocery, or other service-oriented or fast-paced industries preferred.

Salary: up to 140,000, plus benefits
