Job Description
SUMMARY
Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor, and the Recreation Coordinator, the Beach Lifeguard’s main responsibility is to provide a safe environment for Summer Camp participants at Pewaukee Beach.
HOURS/SCHEDULE
This a seasonal position that requires a scheduled commitment from June 25 - August 7, working on Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30-3:30pm each day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervision of the beachfront and ensuring public safety.
Responsible for constant attention to assigned guarding areas and efficiently performing emergency procedures as necessary.
Maintain safety at the beach by enforcing Department policies and procedures and correcting infractions by patrons.
Fill out necessary forms and paperwork including accident/incident reports and daily attendance and temperature log.
Handle patron concerns, problems or any other significant issues professionally and politely.
Assist in keeping the beach and swimming areas clear and clean of debris.
Follow policies and procedures as identified in the Beach Lifeguard manual.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 15 years of age.
Must be responsible and mature.
Must have the ability to handle patron complaints professionally.
Must be calm and act swiftly in emergency situations.
Must have an understanding of waterfront/beachfront operations.
Must be available for duration of season for scheduled dates and times.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification needed by time of hire.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO SUCCEED IN THIS POSITION

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The primary work environment is outdoors in hot, humid weather at a waterfront park.
