Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Reports To: CEO

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

Employment Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $85k-$105k/year

Position Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position requires a mission-driven finance professional who can ensure fiscal responsibility, compliance with government regulations, transparency, and stewardship of funds. The CFO will lead the finance, accounting, grants management, and budgeting functions, and play a strategic role in shaping the future of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Financial Oversight

Manage annual budgeting process and long-term financial forecasting.

Monitor financial performance and provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Ensure sound internal controls and safeguarding of assets.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local government financial regulations.

Oversee audits (financial, programmatic, and compliance) and ensure timely submission of all required filings, including IRS Form 990 and other financial reports.

Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures in accordance with best practices.

Grants Oversight

Oversee grant accounting and ensure financial compliance with public and private grantors.

Leadership & Team Management

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.

Serve as a financial advisor to the Executive Director and Board, including the Finance and Audit Committees.

Participate in strategic planning and organizational leadership efforts.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA strongly preferred).

Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.

Experience in a non-profit, government, or public sector organization preferred.

Deep knowledge of non-profit financial management, including restricted funds, grants, and government compliance.

Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

High integrity and commitment to transparency, accuracy, and ethical financial stewardship.

Preferred Attributes:

Experience working with Boards of Directors and audit committees.

Familiarity with financial management systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Nonprofit, or similar).

Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights for non-financial stakeholders.

Passion for public service and advancing the mission of a government-affiliated non-profit organization.
