Description:

Franklin University, located in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a full-time, 12-month Lead Faculty, Primary Education in the School of Education. This position carries primary responsibility for course development, teaching, and academic leadership within the Primary Education discipline. The role includes oversight of adjunct faculty, support for educator preparation accreditation, and active participation in university governance and initiatives that support student success.

The Lead Faculty, Primary Education will develop and maintain course content and instructional materials, implement course assessment procedures, and ensure instructional quality and consistency across assigned courses. The position includes mentoring, evaluating, and supporting adjunct faculty, teaching within the discipline, participating in faculty meetings and university committees, and coordinating course schedules and materials. This role also plays a key part in accreditation and compliance activities, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of state and national regulations, and supporting data collection and reporting to ensure alignment with institutional and accreditation standards.

The ideal candidate will have classroom teaching experience in P–6 schools and hold a valid teaching license in either P–3, P–5, or 1–8 grade bands. Candidates must possess a master’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution, with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in-discipline. A strong orientation toward student success, excellent organizational and communication skills, and proficiency with educational technology are essential. Candidates should be able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic academic environment and demonstrate a solid understanding of P–12 and higher education accreditation, regulatory compliance, and best practices in curriculum design and assessment.

Preferred qualifications include an earned doctorate in a relevant field, five or more years of professional experience in education, and a Reading Endorsement and/or experience with Orton-Gillingham methodologies. Experience in leading other educators—such as serving as an instructional coach, lead teacher, or professional development facilitator—is highly valued. Candidates with relevant professional certifications or a record of scholarly engagement will also be strong contributors to the School of Education's mission and culture of continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate would have the ability to work a hybrid schedule on campus, allowing for regular in-person engagement with faculty, staff, and students. However, consideration will be given to candidates who work remotely, provided they can commit to being onsite as needed to support departmental initiatives, collaboration, and university events.
