Company Overview

Promise empowers utilities and government agencies to create flexible, affordable solutions for individuals struggling with debt. Our innovative approach to payment plans and relief distribution significantly improves enrollment and recovery rates, helping individuals clear debts faster and reducing delinquencies for our partners.

We treat people facing financial difficulties with respect and dignity, providing the tools and resources they need to thrive. Our team includes experts from companies like Palantir, Google, Stripe, and esteemed government leaders.

Backed by over $50 million in funding from top investors – such as Reid Hoffman, Howard Schultz, Michael Seibel, Y Combinator, 8VC, The General Partnership, First Round Capital, Kapor Capital, XYZ Ventures, and Bronze Investments – Promise has been recognized as one of Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies of 2022,” “Forbes Next Billion-Dollar Startups 2024,” and Y Combinator’s #1 GovTech startup.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an Implementation Engineer who is energized by Promise’s mission to distribute relief and help low-income families catch up with their past-due utility bills. An engineer in this role will have had past experience in a post-sales customer-facing technical role, demonstrating strong software engineering fundamentals while also exhibiting the soft skills, patience, and forward-looking attitude necessary to achieve customer success.

Our Implementation Engineers align with their customers and have empathy for their success while maintaining a high technical bar and a drive for finding solutions. We value experience with technologies like Next.js, NodeJs, React, Java, Docker, and SQL databases; experience working with enterprise Customer Information Systems software like SAP and Oracle is not required, but is a plus.

What You'll Do

Work directly with Promise’s utility and government customers to integrate our Payment Plans and Government products within their existing systems. Occasional on-site travel is required.

Have a keen interest in customer success, digging deep into customers’ systems to understand their requirements and resolve their concerns.

Work on Promise’s products themselves, building more reliability and automation into the implementation process from start to finish.

What Will Enable You

At least 4 years of experience as a software engineer, showcasing experience in building and deploying production software in an environment that is fluid and requires the ability to build rapid context as you go.

Customer-facing experience in a similar technical role. Our implementation engineers align with their customers and show empathy for their success while maintaining a high technical bar.

Experience with technologies like Next.js, NodeJs, React, Java, Docker, and SQL databases (PostgreSQL).

An innate curiosity and drive for what makes Promise tick: you don’t hesitate to cross team boundaries to determine a scalable solution and document it for those who follow.

Experience working with enterprise Customer Information Systems software like SAP and Oracle is not required, but is a plus.
