Job Description

Smith Personnel is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our team in a full-time, office-based role. This position plays a key part in acquiring and managing raw metal materials used in the forging of military-grade components for aerospace, land-based systems, and weaponry. Ideal candidates will have experience in a manufacturing job-shop environment and a working knowledge of AS9100 quality standards.

Purchasing Agent – Manufacturing

On-site Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch)

$20–$22/hour, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Production Manager and Planner to ensure raw material needs are met.

Manage raw material inventory—issue materials to jobs, track stock levels, and place orders.

Request quotes and negotiate with suppliers to secure cost-effective and timely deliveries.

Create, process, and track purchase orders, ensuring accurate and on-time receipt of materials.

Resolve any delays or issues affecting material availability.

Maintain accurate records for purchasing, inventory, and certifications.

Support inventory cycle counts and the year-end physical inventory.

Ensure compliance with all AS9100 and internal documentation requirements.

Perform other duties as needed under the direction of the Production Manager.

Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (citizen or lawful permanent resident).

Associate degree or trade school certificate required; high school diploma or GED accepted with 1–3 years of relevant purchasing experience.

1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.

Aerospace or defense industry background a plus.

Familiar with Quality Management Systems (AS9100 preferred).

Strong computer skills, including ERP systems and Microsoft Office.

Able to read and understand technical specs and quality documentation.
