Belcan is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join a global business unit in Houston, TX. This role requires planning and independently executing engineering tasks, applying judgment and expertise to solve complex structural problems. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for engineering design, coordination, and problem-solving, often involving innovative approaches and adapting engineering techniques to meet project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, and conduct detailed phases of structural engineering work, including design and coordination across global teams.
Apply and adapt conventional and advanced engineering techniques to resolve design conflicts and material challenges.
Use Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) along with 2-D and 3-D CAD/CAE tools for design and analysis.
Prepare equipment/work specifications, participate in bid evaluations, and recommend awards.
Coordinate engineering efforts among specialty disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
Address constructability requirements and coordinate technical reviews with multiple departments.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers and project subgroups when assigned.
Prepare letters, reports, conceptual studies, cost estimates, and proposals.
Review and check work performed by subordinate engineers to ensure quality and compliance.
Support a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
Minimum 9 years of relevant experience in structural or design engineering.
Professional engineering license from a recognized licensing board.
Proven expertise in engineering design, calculations, and the application of engineering standards and codes.
Proficient in engineering software including CAD (2-D and 3-D) and CAE tools.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience with engineering planning, project control, and interdisciplinary coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with greenfield or brownfield projects in markets such as:
Natural gas processing (liquefaction, regasification)
Petrochemicals and chemical processing plants
Carbon capture and sequestration
Power plants (solar, combined cycle)
Hydrogen infrastructure
Offshore/onshore pipelines
Water treatment facilities
Familiarity with current process technologies and licensors relevant to the above markets.
Additional Skills
Broad knowledge of industry precedents and best practices.
Ability to perform engineering tasks with minimal technical oversight on moderately complex projects.
Skilled at fostering teamwork, communication, and innovation within the workplace.
