The job opportunity:

Are you a strategic thinker and skilled project leader ready to make a statewide impact? One Washington is seeking two (2) dynamic and experienced Senior ERP Project Manager to play a key role in one of the most ambitious enterprise resource planning (ERP) transformations in state history. In this influential role, you'll be at the heart of the action—supporting a major workstream portfolio and collaborating with leaders across state agencies to modernize critical systems in budget, finance, HR, payroll, and procurement.

As part of the One Washington project management team, you’ll leverage your expertise to manage complex deliverables, drive multi-agency coordination, and guide strategic planning and risk mitigation efforts. Your work will directly shape statewide policy and process improvements, ensuring that products and services meet the highest standards of quality, accountability, and innovation.

*This position is eligible to frequently telework the majority of the time and is typically not required to report on-site. If required on-site, then your supervisor will do their best to make every effort to notify you at least 1 week in advance, with the exception of emergency/urgent situations. The default assigned work location of all One Washington project positions – both on-site and telework eligible positions – is within the State of Washington, *specifically at one of our two duty stations based in Olympia.

Duties

One Washington (OneWA), led by the Office of Financial Management, is an enterprise-wide transformation project focused on replacing 1960s-era technology with a cloud-based solution for finance, procurement, budget, HR, and payroll processes, utilizing Workday technology. OneWA is a long-term, yet extremely fast-paced project anticipated to fully implement all phases by 2030. The project’s core business hours are Monday through Friday, all project positions are full-time, and we offer some flexibility in schedules oriented around core business hours with prior supervisory approval. However, it is very common to regularly work beyond the typical 40-hour work week to meet the rigorous operational needs and business deliverables required for the go-live timelines.

What you'll work on

Lead and manage project information technology for setup of Enterprise Resource Planning system that will support all state agencies, higher education, the Legislature and the Governor. Assigned a specialty portfolio (Reporting, Data, LSR, agency readiness, functional/business transformation, RAID/CCB, testing, scheduling, special projects, etc.) to foster multi-functional workstream approach based on business needs.

Provide leadership, consultation and oversight to the project team members and stakeholders through the duration of the project.

Establish and collaborate on IT plans of action, setting priorities, establishing timelines and leverage resources.

Work closely with the One WA Program Management Office and various leaders to determine project needs and risks

Perform complex tasks in the area of expertise, leverage technical expertise to take advantage of new opportunities, solve difficult work problems, and accomplish challenging goals.

Communicate key project information (i.e. issues, risks, changes, accomplishments to internal and external partners.

Collaborate with the One Washington Project Management Office Director, Executive Program Director and Chief Technology Officer to determine needed project controls.

Ensure there is an ongoing common understanding of the purpose of the project and the project objectives by all stakeholders. Communicate and collaborate with contractors as well as state staff.

Develop and implement project management standards, processes, best practices, and templates.

Provide project management services including status, projection and budget updates, lead meetings, drive project/task to completion, manage governance and gateways.

Qualifications

What you need to bring

Required Qualifications:

Five years of project management experience.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, public administration, business management, project management or related field/discipline. *Experience can substitute for education on a year-to-year basis.

Formal Project Management coursework (Project Management Certification or training).

Successfully managing a range of medium to large projects with increasing complexity.

Experience in and demonstrated understanding of the project domain, experience sufficient to review activities and tasks with domain experts and verify estimated levels of effort.

Skilled at clearly communicating information and ideas internally and externally.

Experience facilitating teams through complex and challenging topics, working to positive resolution.

Experience managing interpersonal relations internally and externally to the program; build rapport inside and outside the immediate project team and can motivate through leadership. Desired Qualifications:

Master’s degree in computer science, public administration, business management, project management or related field/discipline.

SCRUM Master Certification; Agile Project Management Certification.

Experience with enterprise resource planning system implementations.Competencies:

Creativity, flexibility, and effective problem-solving skills.

Ability to effectively prioritize project resources and tasks to the highest value work requirement.

Ability to effectively use computer tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, SmartSheets and Visio.

Ability to effectively use MS project for scheduling.

Ability to use the understanding of business functions and processes, the industry, and organizational performance to maximize results, limit risk, and effectively contribute to department, team, and/or broader organization results.

Ability to challenge popular values, opinions, and decisions to ensure that actions taken are in the organization’s best interests; diplomatically says what needs to be said even in the face of pressure or conflict; offers direct and candid feedback.

Ability to Identify and emphasize critical priorities to ensure time (team and own) and energy are aligned with important organization goals despite daily distractions.
