Purpose

Position will serve under the direct supervision of the School Principal and will offer a variety of aide responsibilities performing work in the school office, the library and offer assistance to key school staff such as the Secretary, School Nurse and Librarian. A majority of the work performed will vary by need and assignments will dependent on situational and daily circumstances that exist in the school.

Essential Job Duties

Due to the varying nature of the positions responsibilities, the following are generalized expectations and may not be inclusive of all job responsibilities expected.

General Office Essential Functions

Performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial work, including typing, proofreading, filing, and checking and recording information for letters, memos, and reports.

Serves as receptionist and gives information or directs visitors to proper office.

May supervise the work of student helpers or volunteers.

Prepares displays, exhibits, and bulletin boards.

Operates a central telephone system.

Receives and greets office callers and refers them to proper persons and offices.

Receives, sorts, and distributes mail and office correspondence.

Performs work of, and attends meetings, in absence of School Secretary.

Handle variety of telephone calls and personal contacts with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.

General Library Aide Essential Functions

Processes and stores library and text materials.

Checks books, audio-visual equipment, and other instructional resources in and out of the library or media center.

Recommends scheduling for repair and/or replacement of audio-visual equipment.

Prepares overdue notices, previewing materials, and keeping records of equipment loans and returns.

Assists students and teachers in locating library media test materials and equipment.

Supervises students’ use of library as needed.

Maintains records and collects payment for lost books and textbooks.

Sorts, indexes, and files materials alphabetically, numerically, and by other predetermined categories.

General Aide responsibilities

May serve as Cross Walk Aide, Lunch Room Aide, and Recess Aide when necessary.

May assist the School Nurse in tracking and distributing medications, offer assistance to students with Nurse Supervision, and follow prescribed processes.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Required Qualifications

Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

Experience working in an environment with competing demands and success in multitasking.

Successful experience working in an office environment performing office duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced computer experience working with database systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

Necessary special requirements:

Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date. \

The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity.

Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another.

Occasional travel/mobility between schools, or between schools and the Administration office, may be required.

Work area is generally a hazard free environment.

Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments.

Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described.

Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
