We are seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar to join the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University. The Post Doctoral Scholar studies interpretation and publication of recently acquired methane data from the tropical Huascaran ice cores covering the last 2000 years. The Post Doctoral Scholar will embark on a program of independent research with the primary goal to determine how our current knowledge of Amazonian methane production can inform the interpretation of the ice core methane record. Duties will include conducting laboratory work centered around the methane studies and comparison of snow cover area and ice area on the Quelccaya ice cap and the Papua, Indonesian ice fields from 1985-2025 using high resolution satellite images.; leading manuscript preparation for submission to peer-reviewed journals; and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Other responsibilities include field research program and conference presentations.

Qualifications:

PhD in glaciology, atmospheric sciences related to Earth Science or a related field by the time of hire is required, along with a strong theoretical or practical background in ice core research. Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining an automated snow-line detection via satellite imagery; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and a collaborative mentality towards research and mentoring.

Desired skills and techniques include 3 or more years of research experience in reconstructing paleoclimates extracted from ice cores, experience in assessing changes in spatial extent and surface elevation of glaciers and experience in preparing and publishing manuscripts. These required and desired skills should be demonstrated through a record of peer-reviewed publications.
