Job Summary:
The Product Engineer Level 1 is responsible for participating in the design and development of new products from concept to production and the improvement of existing products in the AFI portfolio by preparing engineering information and supporting the AFI teams in Plymouth and our manufacturing facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Participate in the product development of such items as wire harness assemblies, and connector products which satisfy customer needs within scheduling and budgetary parameters. This also may include the modification of existing designs and proprietary items.
Leads the creation or updates of assembly and component part drawings; controls and conducts the distribution of drawings to customers and all related departments.
Supports testing activities.
Support customer technical design reviews.
Develop and maintain cost table information in support of sales activities.
Interface with customers to provide project information.
Provides engineering information for manufacturing. This includes product specifications, cost breakdowns, bill of material breakdown, etc.).
Review customer specifications and determine product design and testing requirements.
Serve as a customer interface, visit customer design staff and assembly plants (start up support and hands on assembly). Assist with assembly plant problems and develops resolution action plans.
AFI quality department support. Supports and back up for the AFI Customer support engineer.
As needed, travel to Furukawa facilities outside the US, and customer manufacturing locations for quality issue support and interface to Furukawa QA department to resolve customer issues. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
English communication skills, both oral and written. The ability to speak Spanish or Japanese is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering.
Blueprint reading and creating.
Thorough knowledge of MS office products, excel, project, and so on.
Use of Catia Software and additional CAD software. Education and Experience:
Two years of prior engineering experience or at least three years of completed course work in an engineering or engineering technology program.
Familiarity with plastic mold parts design and electro-mechanical products in nature.
Experience in wire harness design. Physical Demands:
