The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization responding to the need for low-cost housing. Our mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides social services in housing for low-income persons, especially those who are older, who have experienced homelessness and who live with mental illness.
Job Summary
West Side Federation is seeking a skilled and reliable Handy Man to join our team! The ideal candidate will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and housekeeping tasks to provide a clean and safe environment for residents of West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) with the goal of enabling senior residents to live safely and as independently as possible.
Please Note: (Floating Handyperson) Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintenance and Repairs
In coordination with building super, or as directed, prepare vacant apartments for occupancy
Assist with painting and light repairs
Assist in special projects (for example: stripping and waxing floors)
Assist with electrical repairs, including troubleshooting and replacing fixtures as necessary
Complete residential painting projects with precision and attention to detail
Perform general maintenance and repairs on residential properties, ensuring all work meets safety standards
Handyman is required to wear the company’s uniform and/or adhere to the dress code policy, and to always maintain a neat and clean appearance
OTHER
Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain a high level of care and respect for and communication with senior residents
Work cooperatively with other staff members
Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff in accordance with WSFSSH Confidentiality Policy
Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills
Implement emergency procedures as necessary
Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner
Assist with other duties as directed
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Strong maintenance skills and experience
Able to work in a multicultural and diverse environment
Proven experience with plumbing and electrical systems
Ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment
Extremely organized and a good communicator
Detail- oriented and an aptitude for problem solving
Bilingual in English and Spanish, highly preferred
Collaborate with team members to lead projects and ensure timely completion of tasks
Required and Preferred Education, Experience and Credentials
High School Diploma or GED required in Lieu of GED, 4 years in a relevant handyman and/or maintenance position required
Minimum of 1 year experience working with a senior population and dependent persons
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated work experience as a handy person and building maintenance
Able to perform job responsibilities
Physical Requirements
Physical demands include primarily required to stand, walk, lean, bend, manage stairs for extended periods throughout multiple buildings. Must be able to maneuver in small spaces, kneel, crouch, climb ladders and ability to lift a minimum of 30lbs or more as needed.
