We employ a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals developing and manufacturing a new generation of technologies and products. We are seeking a Hardware Engineer to work onsite in our Blacksburg VA office, where we develop optical test and measurement equipment and fiber optic sensing products. Luna’s products allow researchers, engineers, and technicians to see what is happening in fiber to a degree of detail and accuracy unmatched by anyone else in the industry. Our test and measurement products assess everything from the fiber optics in financial data centers that support global stock exchanges to the communication systems in cutting edge military aircraft.
About the role:
Luna requires a talented, experienced Hardware Engineer to assist in the development of leading edge fiber optic test & measurement equipment with unique technology and capabilities. Our products enable companies to develop, manufacture, and maintain the most advanced fiber optic communication equipment, and advanced lightweight vehicular and civil structures
Roles & Responsibilities:
Mixed signal and high-performance digital circuit design
Support production and manufacturing operations with root cause analysis and recommended remediation as needed.
Tier 3 customer support when escalated from the technical support team.
Develop and adapt hardware to interface and control system components including lasers, optical components, data acquisition and data transfer
Coordinate with third-party digital design / production house
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in EE or CE
Familiarity with advanced lab instruments for debugging boards (high-speed scopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong commitment to quality and attention to detail
Greater than 5 years’ experience in multiple of the following areas:
Full life-cycle PCB design with emphasis on documentation and reviews, and design verification and validation.
Optoelectronics
Gigabit communications (SATA, PCIe, Ethernet)
High-speed data acquisition (100 Msps +)
Power supply design (linear and switching)
Analog and/or RF circuit design
Digital and Analog simulation (Spice, Modelsim, etc)
One or more high-end schematic and layout CAD systems (Altium Designer preferred; Cadence Allegro and/or OrCAD acceptable.)
Understanding of PCB signal integrity concepts
Desired Qualifications:
Graduate Degree
Xilinx FPGA design
Experience with Ansys SiWave or other signal integrity/PDN simulation tools
