Primary Functions
Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal and roadway lighting systems, ensuring compliance with ODOT standards, the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD), and applicable design guidelines.
Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
Mentor and support junior staff; coordinate with other disciplines and regional offices (OH, MI, IN).
Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. May perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is occasionally required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
Experience & Skills:
10+ years of experience in traffic engineering, including ODOT-related projects.
Ohio PE license required.
Proficiency in MicroStation; experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
Strong knowledge of ODOT traffic standards and guidelines.
Experience with Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro; TransModeler is a plus.
Familiarity with ITE Trip Generation Manual, complex MOT design, and traffic studies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.
