The Metadata Extract team at Box drives critical innovation in intelligent content processing using cutting-edge Agentic AI technologies. We develop proprietary systems leveraging OCR and LLMs to deeply understand documents and extract key information at scale - enhancing productivity and automating workflows. Our work powers essential features across Box by turning unstructured content into structured data.

In this role, you’ll work alongside a passionate and experienced team of Machine Learning Engineers to design and deliver intelligent systems that meet the highest standards of availability, scalability, security, and compliance. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI at Box, building robust pipelines and infrastructure that bring cutting-edge research into production at enterprise scale.

Whether it’s processing millions of documents daily or enabling smarter decision-making through AI, the Metadata Extract team is at the heart of Box’s mission to make the world’s content both more useful and more valuable.

What You’ll Do

Play a key role in designing and developing services for intelligent content processing and metadata extraction

Implement new services and use cases while phasing out the old ones

Implement inter-service communication using APIs and Pub/Sub messaging systems.

Maintain system health through monitoring, observability, logging, and metrics collection

Scale services to meet enterprise-grade quality standards for performance, reliability, and availability

Work closely with Machine Learning Engineers

Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field

3+ years of professional software development experience

Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures and code design principles

Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems

Familiarity with Java AND Python, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, API

Passionate about AI technologies, basic knowledge in AI/ML is a nice-to-have

Strong sense of ownership, persistence and drive, strong communication skills

Boxers are expected to work from their assigned office a minimum of 3 days per week, with a focus on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
