Kazan, McClain, Satterley & Greenwood, a Professional Law Corporation, has represented thousands of people suffering from the effects of asbestos related illnesses, particularly mesothelioma, since 1974. We are nationally recognized pioneers in asbestos litigation and currently interviewing Legal Secretaries to join our Oakland, California based team.
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Firm, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and managing the accounting department. This position ensures compliance with accounting principles, company policies and regulatory requirements, while providing leadership and strategic support to the Managing Partners.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise daily accounting operations. including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and bank reconciliations.
Ensure that accounting records are maintained in accordance with company policy and regulatory standards.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all entries are accurately recorded and reconciled.
Develop, implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
Monitor compliance with tax regulations and other legal requirements, overseeing the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory documents.
Ensure adherence to corporate governance, policies and procedures across all financial functions.
Oversee the management of company cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and capital expenditures.
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic business decisions and growth initiatives.
Other duties as requested by Managing Partners.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
Strong knowledge of law firm-specific accounting practices
Minimum of 7 years experience in Finance and Accounting in a supervisory or management role, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment.
Proven track record as a high-performing and proactive self-starter who can accomplish company objectives on-time and within budget
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with all levels of the Firm
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a dynamic law firm setting
