Job Description

Akira Technologies is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to add their skills and experience to our team developing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise wide data services supporting the US federal agencies.

As a member of the data engineering team, delivering senior level innovative and compelling software solutions across a wide variety of enterprise applications. The job duties and requirements are defined for backend.

This role is mostly remote with occasional onsite meetings in Washington, DC.

Job Responsibilities

Designs, develops, and delivers solutions that meet business line and enterprise requirements.

Creates data and reporting infrastructure by building and optimizing production-grade data pipelines using continuous integration/ continuous deployment.

Participates in rapid prototyping and POC development efforts.

Understand business and technical requirements and constraints to design effective data engineering solutions.

Assists in efforts to develop and refine functional and non-functional requirements.

Champion engineering excellence, including software design patterns, code reviews and automated unit/functional testing.

Create conceptual architecture and detailed designs for data engineering solutions.

Contributes to overall enterprise technical architecture and implementation best practices.

Participates in iteration and release planning.

Performs other duties and projects assigned

The ideal person for this position is detail oriented, has expertise as a data engineer, and brings good working knowledge of the leading data platforms, analysis tools, and relevant cloud technologies. He/she will work closely with product owners across various functional areas to understand the objectives of the agency / program and prioritize any requirements.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Management, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a related field

5 or more years of experience developing data pipelines and data management services and solutions

Required Technical Skills:

Design and implementation of data lake, data warehouse and data mart.

Web API, REST, XML/JSON.

ETL/ELT, and one of data engineering languages (Python/Java/Scala).

Hands on Databricks experience building cloud native cloud-native data warehouse

Strong SQL experience, with expert-level skills in query performance tuning and data modeling.

Designs enterprise database systems using Microsoft SQL Server.

Working knowledge of GIT. Develop branching and merging strategies.

Ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable, reusable code.

Estimate tasks with a level of granularity and accuracy commensurate with information provided to ensure expectations of delivery are reasonable.

Excels in a rapid iteration environment with short turnaround time.

Salary Range: $125,000 - $140,000

Akira’s pay range for this position considers various factors including skills, years of experience, training, licenses, certifications, alignment with market data, and internal equity in the organization. This pay range estimate is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary, which Akira believes to be done in good faith in compliance with local laws. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
