Job Title: Development Manager

Department: Development

Reports To: Senior Director of Development

Position: $40,000-$45,000 annually

Job Summary: The Jacksonville Humane Society is seeking a passionate and driven Development Manager to help grow philanthropic support for our mission. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of individual donors and corporate sponsors, building relationships that inspire generosity, and deepening engagement with our work. The Development Manager will also play a key role in planning and executing fundraising events that generate critical revenue and connect the community to our lifesaving efforts. Primary Responsibilities

Manage a large portfolio of donors and prospects through personalized outreach, engagement, and stewardship.

Oversee a robust portfolio of corporate sponsors, including solicitation, proposal creation, benefit fulfillment, acknowledgments, renewals, and reporting.

Support the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns, including but not limited to: Toast to the Animals, third-party events, and corporate partner activations.

Process donations and prepare customized acknowledgment letters and other donor communications in a timely manner.

Collaborate with vendors and service providers (e.g., print, software, promotional, event) to support fundraising and event logistics.

Develop compelling written proposals, sponsorship decks, and informational materials.

Coordinate and participate in donor and sponsor meetings, behind-the-scenes tours, and engagement opportunities to cultivate new and existing relationships.

Work alongside senior leadership and board members to identify and steward donors and sponsors at the leadership giving level. Maintain accurate, timely contact reports and donor records in the CRM (Bloomerang).

Create donor and sponsor reports to support fundraising strategy, event planning, and stewardship.

Prepare monthly revenue and activity reports; track key metrics related to donor and sponsor engagement.

Assist with the creation and execution of donor and sponsor stewardship events and appreciation activities.

Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to explore new corporate and community partnership opportunities.

Train and manage development volunteers as needed.

Serve as an ambassador for JHS at all relevant events, both on- and off-site.

Maintain thorough knowledge of JHS programs, campaigns, and strategic initiatives.

Conduct behind-the-scenes tours throughout the year.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, sales, or marketing; corporate sponsorship or event planning experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service to donors and community stakeholders.

A sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of fundraising principles and practices and a demonstrated high level of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, and success in fundraising.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, great attention to detail, the ability to process and maintain confidential information, and develop strong relationships with both internal and external constituencies to promote a positive collaborative spirit across the organization’s network.

Knowledge of the communities served by Jacksonville Humane Society.

Experience with Bloomerang or equivalent database preferred.

Experience with Microsoft products preferred.

Public speaking skills are a plus.

Ability to handle dogs and cats of various sizes, ages, etc.

Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Ability to work in an environment around animals

Work Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically weekday hours. Flexibility including some evening, weekend, and holiday hours is required.

Hours and days are subject to change based on department demands.

Performance Measures

Timely and accurate processing and acknowledgment of donations (within 24–48 hours).

Growth in individual donor engagement and retention.

Growth in corporate sponsorship revenue and renewals.

Success in planning and executing fundraising events and partner activations.

High-quality stewardship and customer service to donors, sponsors, funder, supporters and board members.

Consistent and accurate donor data management and reporting.
