Role Summary
As an Estimator II, you will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for contract proposals across one or more disciplines-primarily mechanical systems such as plumbing, piping, or sheet metal. You may independently handle medium to large-sized plan/spec, design-assist, or design-build projects. This role requires advanced technical and estimating knowledge and is based on-site in Rochester, MN.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating, Proposing, and Assessing:
- Review proposals, plans, and drawings to determine project scope and estimate requirements.
- Calculate complete takeoff of the project's scope of work.
- Estimate sizes, distances, materials, time, labor, and resources required.
- Analyze blueprints and technical documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Recommend design alternatives based on cost, engineering efficiency, or material availability.
- Develop and deliver accurate cost proposals for current and prospective clients.
- Compare actual project costs to bids and assess cost effectiveness.
- Track costs and expenditures throughout project duration.
- Obtain and review subcontractor and vendor quotes.
Documentation:
- Document all estimation and account activities.
- Generate cost reports and maintain detailed records.
- Organize working files and backup documentation for all estimate figures.
Team Collaboration:
- Assist and support other departments with cross-discipline estimating.
- Mentor and train junior team members.
- Promote and participate in a safety-centric, collaborative work environment.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 2+ years of relevant experience in estimating, engineering, or mechanical trades.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems (plumbing, piping, or sheet metal).
- Strong understanding of mechanical estimating software.
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and estimation systems.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Associate's degree in engineering or a related technical field (preferred).
