Servatron, a Volex Company, is expanding our Engineering team! We’re seeking a hands-on, adaptable Process Engineer to support manufacturing process development and continuous improvement, with a primary focus in Surface Mount Technology (SMT). We’re looking for individuals with strong problem-solving skills and a background in electronics or general manufacturing who are excited to learn and grow.

Position Summary

The Process Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes—primarily in SMT, but with opportunities to support other areas such as cable production, conformal coating, soldering, or mechanical assembly. This is an ideal role for a candidate with a solid manufacturing foundation who is ready to expand their skillset into SMT and high-mix, low-to-mid volume electronics production.

Key Responsibilities

Support process development and optimization for SMT and other electronics manufacturing areas.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing quality, consistency, and cost efficiency.

Participate in and help prioritize New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts, especially those involving SMT processes.

Collaborate with quoting, engineering, and production teams to provide process input and technical support.

Troubleshoot process and equipment issues; develop and implement effective solutions.

Contribute to equipment evaluations, trials, and recommendations for capital investments.

Create and maintain clear documentation, including work instructions and process control plans.

Provide mentorship and guidance to technicians and production staff as needed.

Maintain document control in alignment with ECO (Engineering Change Order) processes.

Tools & Equipment Exposure

You’ll work with a wide variety of equipment including:

SMT line tools (pick-and-place, reflow ovens, SPI, AOI, X-ray inspection)

Selective soldering and conformal coating systems

Component prep and depaneling tools

Water wash systems and thermal profiling equipment

3D printers, CAD/CAM software (e.g., FAB3000)

Precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience; or equivalent, defined as at least 10 years of directly related manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree.

Strong mechanical and process aptitude and a desire to learn SMT and automation tools

Comfortable working independently on multiple projects and prioritizing effectively

Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Willingness to provide occasional off-hours support (phone/email) as needed

Proficient in verbal and written English

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with SMT or electronics manufacturing equipment

Experience programming automation equipment or similar systems (e.g., PLCs, pick-and-place machines, or inspection tools)

Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles

Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards

Experience with soldering, 3D printing, or conformal coating

Prior involvement with continuous improvement or process control efforts

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Electronics manufacturing environment—may require PPE (ESD protection, safety glasses, etc.)

Frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
