Clayton Services is searching for a Process Controls Engineer to join a thriving company in Houston, Texas.

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $150,000/year

Process Controls Engineer Responsibilities:

Design, evaluate, and optimize chemical processes used in petrochemical production.

Monitor plant performance and analyze process data to improve yields, reduce waste, and enhance energy efficiency.

Troubleshoot process issues and lead root cause analysis with cross-functional teams.

Lead or support process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP studies, and risk assessments.

Collaborate with operations, maintenance, electrical, safety, and environmental teams to ensure process integrity and regulatory compliance.

Develop and update process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Provide technical support during plant startups, shutdowns, and turnarounds.

Recommend and implement technology upgrades and process modifications.

Assist with the commissioning and validation of new equipment and control systems.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Perform process simulation in AspenPlus, HYSYS, or similar software tools.

Oversee or support DCS, PLC, and SCADA programming, integration, and optimization.

Other duties as assigned.

Process Controls Engineer Skills and Abilities:

Must have strong controls experience, including DCS, PLC, SCADA systems, and programming.

Familiarity with field instrumentation and HSIS is required.

Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (API, ASME, NFPA).

Demonstrated experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Strong understanding of petrochemical unit operations such as distillation, cracking, reforming, and heat exchange.

Process Controls Engineer Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Minimum of 5 years of experience.

Prior experience as a Process Controls Engineer or in a similar process engineering role within the petrochemical industry.

Experience with process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD, PRO/II).

Experience with Pipe Flow Software and AutoCAD.
