Job Summary
We seek a highly analytical, strategic, and people-oriented Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations in Vancouver, WA. This pivotal leadership role supports a dynamic commercial construction and service-based business, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial systems while driving continuous improvement across the organization. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with deep industry experience, a mastery of WIP and GAAP accounting, and a passion for developing talent and aligning finance with operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, WIP schedules, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
Deliver timely, strategic financial insights to executive leadership to support business planning and decision-making.
Foster a data-driven culture that prioritizes accuracy, accountability, and process improvement across the finance function.
Accounting Operations
Manage the monthly close process, driving both timeliness and accuracy.
Ensure full compliance with GAAP and rigorous execution of WIP accounting across all projects.
Oversee cash flow forecasting and management, including disbursements, collections, and working capital optimization.
Controls & Compliance
Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
Maintain payroll compliance, including a deep understanding of prevailing wage laws in Oregon and Washington.
Support audit processes and regulatory reporting with diligence and transparency.
Technology & Systems
Optimize the use of financial systems—NetSuite experience highly preferred—as well as construction and field service software.
Drive initiatives to improve system integration, data accuracy, and workflow efficiency.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of development, accountability, and collaboration.
Partner with operations, project management, and executive teams to align financial processes with strategic goals and field execution.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years in commercial construction or service-based industries.
Expert knowledge of GAAP, WIP accounting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
Strong proficiency with financial systems; experience with NetSuite and construction industry software is a plus.
Deep understanding of payroll laws and prevailing wage compliance in OR and WA.
Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
